Overwhelmed Bergholt: Hard to take it all in

By Nicklas Thygesen

The phone has been red-hot, the messages have poured in from all sides – and there is hardly a media outlet in Denmark that has not covered Skjern captain's wild tournament.

“It has been overwhelming with all the messages, calls and congratulations I have been met with. It is hard to take it all in in such a short time, and I think it will really sink in for me when the final tournament is over, how crazy it actually has been. It all gets a bit mixed together, and I just try to stay fully focused on being 100 percent present.”

“But you must have huge thanks. It has been fantastic to feel the support from home, on social media and from the many Skjern people who have been at Boxen for the matches. It is greatly appreciated, says Emil Bergholt.”

The Skjern captain and the rest of the Danish national team on Monday evening advanced to the European Championship semi-final after the win over Germany.

For Skjern’s number 14, the European Championship final tournament has meant big responsibility and many minutes on the court.

“I went into the final tournament without great expectations – a bit like last year. I just have to be ready when the chance comes. I will probably never completely be satisfied with my own performance – that is how I am set up. But it was a huge relief yesterday, and it will be an amazing experience to play a European Championship semi-final at home in Boxen,” says Emil Bergholt.

Denmark plays their last match in the intermediate round tomorrow against Norway. Kick-off is at 20:30.
