Mensah stops on the Danish men's national team

The European Championship gold on home soil became the perfect farewell for Mads Mensah Larsen.

After more than 14 years in red and white, Mads Mensah Larsen has decided to put a definitive full stop on his national team career, which has included no fewer than 16 final tournaments - spread over seven World Championships, seven European Championships and two Olympic final tournaments.

The 34-year-old backcourt player made his senior national team debut in 2011 and can look back on an outstanding career with 225 international matches, where he has been a prominent figure in one of Denmark's most successful handball periods.

The Skjern profile, who has played the 11th most international matches for Denmark ever, has won all the major titles with the national team, including Olympic gold, European Championship gold and 4 x World Championship gold.

- It has been an enormous privilege to represent Denmark. Pulling the national team jersey over my head 225 times is something I am incredibly proud of. I have given everything I had every time I have been away with the national team. Now the time has come to pass the baton on and prioritise new chapters – both at club level and privately, says Mads Mensah Larsen.

- The experiences, memories and great results we have created together I will carry with me for the rest of my life. The European Championship gold in Boxen was the perfect full stop to my journey with the Danish national team, says Mads Mensah Larsen.
