After three years at Skjern Handball, Rasmus Wilbek becomes new assistant coach at Skjern Handball on the first team, while continuing as head coach of the club's U17 team.
Since his arrival at the club, Wilbek has been a central part of the talent environment as head coach of the U19 team and as a transition coach focusing on the move from youth to senior. Since the turn of the year he has also been part of the staff around the first team.
The appointment also underlines the direction Skjern Handball is working in, where the distance between youth and the league becomes smaller, and where skilled coaches get the opportunity to develop internally within the club.
– A lot has happened with my development here in Skjern. I have become more ambitious about my coaching work and more conscious about constantly developing myself. At the same time I have been allowed to work with something I am really passionate about – developing young players and helping them on to senior level, says Rasmus Wilbek.
For Wilbek there was no doubt when the opportunity arose.
– It is a big job, and I am both proud and honored to get the opportunity. I am really happy to be in Skjern and thrive here. I have sought the combination of youth and senior handball, and here I have found a framework where I can work with both – developing young players for the league and at the same time being part of an environment where we must perform and win matches.
- At the same time I really look forward to working with and under Oscar Carlén. Oscar has great experience and many competencies that I look forward to learning from, says Wilbek.
Sports director Thomas Klitgaard sees the appointment as a natural next step – both for Wilbek and for the club's work to create a clear path from the academy to the first team.
– Rasmus is a talented coach, tactically shrewd and skilled at developing players' individual competencies. We want a culture where skilled and dedicated people can see a clear path from the academy to the first team. This applies not only to players, but to a high degree also to coaches. Rasmus has worked closely with our youth environment for several years and taken big steps in his own development. Therefore it is completely natural that he now becomes part of the coaching team around the first team, says Thomas Klitgaard.
