Skjern coach gives status: Pride, disappointment, and exceptional support

By Nicklas Thygesen

A hectic season with ups and downs culminated in the biggest possible match on home ground, when Skjern Handball played the club's sixth DM final in history last Saturday.

The result was, as known, not as desired, which still lingers on head coach Mathias Madsen, who is nonetheless proud of his players.

- If you do not feel a deep disappointment over a final loss, then you are not doing it right. It still hurts, and I think we should be both proud and disappointed with the DM silver - because we always strive for gold in Skjern Handball. I had immense faith that we could force the series to three games, but I must also send big praise to Simon Dahl and the Aalborg boys for a great final series. They were better than us, says Mathias Madsen.

Great praise to the players and support
It wasn’t many months ago that the West Jutlanders were in imminent danger of not qualifying among the top eight in the regular season.

But an excellent finish to the regular season and a convincing performance throughout the playoffs demands respect - and big praise from Madsen to his players.

- They have been outstanding and fought with everything they could. We came from behind and have delivered at a consistently high level throughout the recent period, so we and the players should be proud that we now stand with silver medals around our necks.

- At the same time, we can also be proud and grateful for the support we have received throughout the season. The highest average attendance in the club's history says everything about the fantastic support we have been met with at Skjern Bank Arena. It's so cool - both for the general audience, the fan club, and the young boys at the academy - that we have managed to create such an excellent backdrop.

- It means so much, and I sincerely hope that we can continue in the same gear - and perhaps even crank it up more for the upcoming season, concludes Mathias Madsen.
